A campin' we will go

Since I had July 23rd and 24th off work Peter and I put together a camping trip. (by the way camping over the 24th of July weekend in Utah is not the best idea, its really hard to find great campgrounds and everyone and their dogs are in the canyon.) To secure a camping spot, peter went up early wed. morning and found an OK spot in the little mill campground up American Fork canyon. That night Peter stayed up there to keep our spot with his friend Ben. I joined them on Thur. and we went on a great hike up the Timpanogos trail. Then we visited Cascade Springs. These are the pictures from Cascade spring.

Later that night the Chandler family came up to camp with us. We absolutely love the Chandlers. Peter served his mission with Loren Chandler. Loren has a lovely wife named Michelle and 2 darling kiddos, Ethan and Emily. Peter and I have always had such a great time hanging out with Loren and Michelle, so we were super excited to go camping with them. The Chandlers also brought a babysitter with them, Reagen. It was such a great idea. Michelle didn't have to worry about were her kids were
wondering off to in the wilderness. ( I think I'm going to still that idea from her in the future, if I have kids)
That night Michelle fixed the most amazing dinner I've ever had camping. I'm talking about steak, corn on the cob, and baked potato's.
The next morning Michelle pulled out one of the best camping products I've seen in years its called Batter Blaster. Its pancake mix in a can. Amazing!!!! no prep work or clean up and it tasted pretty good. I give this product review two thumbs up.

After Breakfast we went Boony busting in our truck up random dirt roads up the canyon.
We stopped a Silver lake. (our original plan was to rent canoes, but because it was a holiday weekend we couldn't find any)
So we just waded in the lake instead.
After our fun at the lake we found this great big rock to have a picnic on.
Here is Ethan, King of the Mountain
Next we hit the dirt road again and got caught in traffic on the side of a mountain, I kid you not.See!
Our final destination was the Reclamation site for an abandoned hard rock mine. These mines functioned from the late 1800's to 1960. It wasn't until 2003 that they decided to clean up this area. It was cool to see the leaching ponds they created to remove the heavy metals. The streams had a tent of red from all of the iron in them.

That evening Peter's sister Lisa came up with her new step family to spend the night at our camp site. They switched out the Chandlers who decided to go home earlier because they had a very busy day on sat. Before they left they stayed for Peters first ever dutch-oven cookin'. He cooked dutch-oven potatoes and chicken, everything tasted great because it was drenched in Bacon grease. yummy! We finished off the dinner with some amazing dutch-oven cobbler cooked by Mark (Lisa's new hubby)
That night we play cards and chatted around the fire.

It was such a fun camping trip, mostly because we didn't have to deal with Boy Scouts!
Next time we will plan better and rough it more.
